Godzilla 201X Legendary Pictures by Dezarath Godzilla 201X Legendary Pictures by Dezarath
Sat down to narrow out the new design for Godzilla from Legendary Pictures. The question for me is the legs and will they go with the traditional or the more theropod look. CGI seems to demand the more animal hind legs, yet the fans demand the humanoid foot stomping goodness we all love about the Big G.

This study falls along the Hollywood hind legs. Anyways getting closer to a final look.

Love this! It has features that they could improve on in the movie (bigger dorsal fin, feet, etc)

I really love this! unique style you got there! :)

I hope they go for the traditional legs! you'd think they would have learned from the 1998 Zilla movie.
Godzilla is such an awsome creation, don't really understand why they want to change the way it should look.
If they ruin this movie by making Godzilla a theropod Giant, then I will be really pissed off.

I've been waiting for over 13 years now for a good Godzilla Movie, Godzilla 2014 needs to be close to perfect, if not then it's probably gonna be the last movie we'll see about him.
Legendary Pictures! Don't mess this up!!!

What I find kinda funny is how similar this design looks when compared to the concept model shown at the SDCC: Godzilla Encounter. The one everyone is calling "Cobra-Neck" Goji. I quite enjoy it though.

Yeah I noticed that. My guy here is pretty close save for the legs and larger amount of dorsal spines. Though the director has said the model is close to the finished form there are some differences.  I'm glad they went with the more humanoid legs if the Model retains that feature.

Fans do NOT demand the humanoid legs, every fan I have talked to would prefer a slightly more "modern" look for Godzilla, this includes "thick" hind legs.

Now this looks neat. Someone definitely needs to visualize a WB-Toho-Legendary logo sequence that would appear at beginning.

Powerful concept! Well completes the "snapping turtle" look from the teaser screen grab, and offers bulk as power. I like the larger lower jaw - which could end up being an Ameri-Goji design feature.

I'd go with the theropod because makes of the very first Godzilla film back in the 50's have stated that they would have made the creature more realistic if they'd had the means to do so. In other words I thonk you did a fantastic job with this design, well done.

well it seemed to me that in the old movies, like gojira and raids again, that there was a slight theropod look. so, i think that they should look to those movies (which it seems the main movie influences will be Gojira 1954 and Hedorah).

Awesome! I'm okay with the animalistic legs as long as they're stalky and thick like they used to be. Subtlety is really what I'm hoping for.

I'll just be pleased if Big G's Clunk Factor(C) gets ratcheted down a couple notches. He doesn't need to take too many pages outta GINO's book, but honestly: would a bit more reaction/recovery speed kill the True Believers(R) among us? There were moments in both the mid-60's & 90's (especially the latter) where Godzilla seemed to spend ages flailing on the turf after taking a solid hit.

So is this a concept for 2014 godzilla, or is it just a fan made attempt at trying to get an idea of his look?

One of the mian things I didn`t like about G98 design was how huge the lower jaw was, but that's just a pet peeve of mine, as I never like most designs with a lower jaw larger than the upper. Overall design is good but IMO the tail is also too thick.

Call me nuts, but as a fan since the early 90's, I see no issue preventing less sumo-proportioned drumsticks from delivering pavement/skull-crushing joy aplenty. Especially when they're as expertly-proportioned as this rendition. Kinda on the fence with regards to the beefed-up lower jaw, though I suppose it nicely differentiates Legend-Goji here from the Heisei & Millennium designs. Good show overall.
